About Me
"Authentic success is living by your own
lights." ~ Sarah Ban Breathnach |
I believe that my website shouldn't showcase just what I can do for you, but also who I am. I firmly believe that I can be true to who I am while also being a professional - I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. In fact, it is very important to me that I do exactly that, especially since I'm such a big believer in the Laws of Attraction.
With me, what you see is what you get. I am who I am, all the time...smart, capable, fun & funny, silly, loving, loyal, friendly, compassionate, wise, resourceful, sensitive, sarcastic, somewhat of a dork, goofy, organized, creative, sincere, honest, optimistic, responsible, confident...I have my flaws too, but I'm working on those!!!
Professionally
I feel like I've been working my whole life. I began babysitting at the young age of 12 and had my first real job at 15. Over the years, I've done everything from waitress to being a Buyer for a major credit card provider. In the past, I've had from one to four jobs at a time (thankfully, I don't have to do THAT anymore). What I loved most though, was being an Administrative Assistant, a supporting role that made things happen. This is what led me to eventually becoming a Virtual Assistant.
It was around 1995 that I got my first job as an administrative assistant for a successful technology company. I loved doing the day-to-day stuff that helped keep our office running. I was layed off in 1997 and went to work for a temp agency. In June of 1998, I realized that I was fed-up with the corporate world and thought that it would be really nice to work from home, for myself. Not having the capital, I wasn't sure what I could do successfully when I read an article in the Dallas Morning News about Assist University. That article literally changed my life. After some research, I decided to bite the bullet and apply. I still consider this one of the single best things I have ever done for myself. Six months later, I became a Certified Graduate of Assist University (Click here to find out more about AssistU).
I've been *officially* self-employed since January 1999. Not much beats my commute down the hall! In my spare time, I also train those who wish to have more freedom and work-life balance by becoming a Virtual Assistant.
As a graduate of Assist University, I've been lucky enough to be recognized by my peers and received the following awards:
Personally
I'm home-grown, meaning I was born and raised in Texas. I moved to Dallas in 1986 from Odessa (Go MOJO!).
I've been married to my husband John since August, 2000. We've been together since 1996 though! I love my husband very much, he is my best friend and the person I know is always there for me. We don't have any kids, but do have 3 cats, 2 dogs, a great family, and many wonderful friends.
I am a girly-girl in that I love makeup, jewelry, clothes, and shoes. Makeup is my crack and I love experimenting with it. I love taking care of myself with massages, pedicures, and facials. I'm a self-proclaimed voluptuary.
Other than spending time with my family and my 10 nieces and nephews, my favorite thing to do is ride my 2007 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic®.
I love to travel with my husband anywhere, whether on our bikes or in an airplane. We both love Costa Rica but haven't been able to visit there in a few years, hopefully soon...In the meantime, life is good!
One of my favorite quotes, that best describes me:
Life is not meant to be a journey to the grave in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, WOW, what a ride!
